I think you'd either have to be away at College or overseas at a private school for this to work. Also, the whole king thing is too much hamlet and should be removed. It's unlikely in this day and age Mom would remarry the next day. Maybe engaged to Uncle instead and throwing an engagement party when she should be mourning or something like that. Even switching Uncle for Cousin or Best Friend might be less Hamlet-esque. Throw a pregnancy where the Father is unknown in for some Springer quality and you've got the start of a good story.
