Please help me figure out which dog is best!?

So earlier today I asked a question kind of like this one. But nobody helped me, they just told me my question was stupid and stuff. Basically, my family is looking into buying a dog. We had a dog for 12 years, but she ped away in october. We are pretty sure we want a medium sized dog. A little bigger then a beagle. My dad and brother want a big dog like a mastiff, but my mother, sister, and I want a small dog like a yorkie, or puggle. For those who don't know, i puggle is a mix of a pug and a beagle. It is a actual dog, look it up. We have been to our local SPCA, petco, petsmart, ect. We looked a a dog that is a sharpie/black lab mix. BUt after we looked into it more,we decided it wasn't right for us. We also don't want a dog that sheds more then a shepherd. Our old dog was a german shepherd/rottweiler mix. We are thinking we don't want to spend much more then $600. I'm not really sure if that is a lot, or what for a dog. We are going to another store in the next few days. I really want help. We have a big back yard, and we are all active, but we don't want a dog that barks A LOT. PLEASE HELP!!
