Editors keep track of market trends so they have an idea on what's sellable. You as a writer are responsible for making a professional looking paper. An agent is responsible for knowing which publishing companies like the genre you are writing, and the idiosyncracies of individual editors. Copy editors check the copy (layout of the final work before it goes into m printing.)
